Lamborghini Diablo GT.  (10-04-2001)

An exclusive Diablo GT from Lamborghini

The fastest production car in the world

At the Frankfurt Motor Show IAA 1999 Lamborghini has presented a new very high performance car that will be produced in a limited edition. Only 80 Diablo GT's will leave the factory at Sant'Agata Bolognese to find happy owners amongst supercar enthusiast.

The Diablo GT is derived from Lamborghini's experience gained in the developement of a GT2 race car combined with its competence in producing high performance road cars. Whilst being homologated in most contries, and driveable on open roads, the GT is the fastest production car with a top speed of 338 kph.

The new Diablo GT has many advanced technical features that are worthwhile explaining in more detail.

Lamborghini Diablo 6.0  (10-04-2001)

Lamborghini Diablo 6.0

The new Diablo of the third millenium is a substantial leap forward, compared to the MY99, presenting many technological improvements such as:

Body mainly in carbon fibre.

New 6 litre engine.

Wider front and rear tracks.

Improved exhaust system.

New 32 bit microprocessor for engine management system.

Upgraded chassis.

Completely redesigned interior.

New air conditioning system.

The Diablo 6.0 sets a new benchmark for the high performance sports cars. The only comparison can be made to the Diablo MY99 with an increase of the engine capacity of 285 cc, to 5,992 cc, delivering 20 bhp more, reaching then a maximum power of 550 bhp. The torque is even better with 620 Nm at 5,500 rpm instead of 605 Nm compared to last year model. In line with Lamborghini tradition many technical improvements have been made  to the enigne management system, to the chassis, to the suspensions and to the exhaust system.

Also in line with the tradition is the body design of the car which has been modified in the front with a new bumper and spoiler, and wider fenders to house structual part of the chassis.

The entire body is now built in carbon fibre except the doors which for safety reasons are in aluminium and the roof which is made out of steel, as it is a structual part of the chassis.

The chassis has been reinforced with carbon fibre inserts increasing the torsional rigidity of the structure.

The new 6 litre V12 engine gives an output of 550 bhp (405 kW) at 7,100 rpm with a maximum torque of 620 Nm at 5,500 rpm.

It is equipped with a variable intake valve timing system (derived from the well proven one already used in the Diablo MY98 and MY99) in order to guarantee good charge effificiency and good torque not only at high rpm but also at low speed. The new 6 litre V12 engine is equipped with titanium connecting rods and a lighter crankshaft to improve performance.

The exhaust system has been redesigned to reduce the back pressure and integrates the Lamborghini ENCS system for noise control.

Lamborghini L147.  (10-04-2001)
The Lamborghini L147

Since Audi took over Lamborghini the Lamborghini L147 was almost ready for production but as VW thought the car was missing the Italian flair the design was rejected and Bertone was hired to develope the L147. Below is a picture of how it looked just before it was rejected.

Unfortunately the factory and Bertone are not leaking many information so I hardly know anything about the car since Audi took over the company. However I think that it will borrow many technical features from the Diablo 6.0, and the performance will also be close to the one of the Diablo 6.0, but the design will be completely new.

The V12 6.0 l. engine is under constant developement and poweroutput will probably be at least 575 bhp when the car is presented to the public this autumn probably in September 2001 at the factory in Sant Agata where all the clubs are invited. Though I do not know exactly how much power the new engine will get it has produced as much as 640 bhp while tested at the factory.

Lamborghini L140.  (17-03-2000) Lamborghini L140

The Lamborghini L140 is going to be a small Lamboghini like the Urraco. Most of you probably know the Calá which was ItalDesign's suggestion to the small Lamborghini, (and I fine suggestion it was!). But when Audi took over the factory Bertone was hired to design all future Lamborghinis.

Originally Audi had thought of building the L140 so it could use as many components from the Audi as possible to keep the costs to a minimum. But they soon found out that the Lamborghini enthusiast wanted a true Lamborghini engine built by Lamborghini.

However it will take a couple of years before the car is ready and no one really knows which engine will be used. However there are 4 possibilities as it is now. The first one is a modified V8 4,2 l. engine from the Audi S8. The second is the V10   8.0 l. engine from the Dodge Viper developed from the Lamborghini Off Shore engines. The third is the V10 engine designed by Lamborghini for the Calá prototype. And the last is the possibility of building a brand new V8 engine on the basis of the Urraco engine.

The factory are very serious about building the L140 but at the moment the are using all their energy in completing the L147. However all the drawings for a new factory building are ready but as it is now they are standing by. The L140 is scheduled to be ready in 2003 and they assume that the annual production will be 750 per year.

The factory restores Lamborghinis.  (17-03-2000) The factory restores Lamborghinis

The factory is now officially restoring Lamborghinis in a special part of the factory. The restoration will be done by highly qualified Lamborghini mechanics all of which have been working at the factory for a long time and might even have helped building the car when it first left the factory. If there are parts missing or if they are damaged the factory using the old technical drawings to create the part again so the cars are kept 100% original. Due to the thoroughness of the restoration the car often leaves the factory in better shape than it did when it first left the factory.

When I visited the factory last year I saw some of the cars restores their and I gaurentee you, that you will not be disappointed.
